A 92-year-old client’s golden Spaniel named Buddy wandered away after 17 years together. The Meals on Wheels volunteer, despite being afraid of dogs, searched for the missing pet and found him injured in a ditch after being hit by a car.

The volunteer transported Buddy home to reunite him with his elderly owner. Both have remained together since, with Buddy never attempting to leave again.

Stories like these remind us that Meals on Wheels is about so much more than food. Our volunteers become trusted friends to the clients they serve — and sometimes even to their beloved pets.
